In 2022, Brian Murphy suffered an epidural hematoma — a traumatic brain injury that can cause permanent brain damage. Within hours he was in surgery. Doctors gave him six months to recover. He was back on stage in weeks.
Pilates was part of how he got there.
Brian has been a professional ballet dancer for over 30 years — still performing across the country at 53, which places him among fewer than 1% of professional dancers in history. He has never missed a performance due to injury. His recovery from TBI was documented by NBC's TODAY show.
That combination — elite performance longevity, personal experience as a patient, and 30 years of Pilates practice — is what shaped this course. He didn't just study how movement supports rehabilitation. He lived it.
